Terms of Service

1. Introduction
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of voicinglab.com and all associated services (the “Service”) operated by VoicingLab Ltd, a company registered in England & Wales (Company No. 17146348). Registered office: 66 Paul Street, London, EC2A 4NA.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.
2. Definitions
- “Service”
- — the VoicingLab website at voicinglab.com, including all tools, content, and APIs.
- “User”
- — any person who accesses or uses the Service.
- “Account”
- — a registered user account created via the Service.
- “Content”
- — all voicing data, articles, audio, keyboard diagrams, and other material on the Service.
- “Subscription”
- — a paid tier granting access to additional features of the Service.
- “Voicing Data”
- — the database of jazz piano voicings, including note arrays, interval analyses, and style classifications.
- “Practice Data”
- — records of your practice sessions, including accuracy scores, timing, and voicing choices.
- “Standards Library”
- — the collection of jazz standard chord progressions with voice-led voicing paths.
- “MCP Server”
- — the Model Context Protocol server providing programmatic access to voicing data via AI assistants.
- “MIDI Input”
- — note data received from a connected MIDI keyboard via the Web MIDI API.
3. Account registration
To create an Account, you must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Provide accurate and complete information
- Maintain the confidentiality of your login credentials
- Maintain only one Account per person
- Notify us immediately of any unauthorised access to your Account
You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your Account.
4. Subscription tiers, features, and billing
The Service offers the following tiers:
Free (£0, forever)
- Full voicing database (10,674 voicings across 16 styles)
- Keyboard diagrams and audio playback for every voicing
- Chord checker and voice-leading tools
- All learn articles and voicing style guides
- Practice mode for 2 jazz standards (Autumn Leaves and Blue Bossa)
- MCP server access (5 tools for programmatic voicing queries)
Explorer (£29, one-time — founding member pricing)
Everything in Free, plus:
- Practice mode for all 25 jazz standards
- Play-along mode with metronome and real-time chord changes
- PDF chord chart exports
- Custom practice lists (create and save ordered sequences of standards)
- iReal Pro import (import, save, and practice any chart from iReal Pro)
Pro (£19.99/month)
Everything in Explorer, plus:
- MIDI keyboard practice tracking with cloud storage
- Analytics dashboard (accuracy trends, standard mastery, chord heatmap, common mistakes)
- AI voicing suggestions (context-aware, rule-based recommendations)
- 16-stage mastery progression with transfer scoring
Teacher (£69.99/month)
Everything in Pro, plus:
- 30 student accounts with invite code onboarding
- Curriculum builder (assign standards, styles, and BPMs to students)
- Class analytics with per-student accuracy breakdowns
- Bulk PDF exports with custom branding
- Students linked to a Teacher account receive Explorer-level access at no additional cost
Billing
- All payments are processed by Stripe. VoicingLab Ltd does not store your card details.
- Explorer is a one-time payment during the founding member period. VoicingLab Ltd reserves the right to transition Explorer to a recurring subscription model in future. Founding members retain their one-time purchase terms for the lifetime of their Account.
- Pro and Teacher are monthly subscriptions with automatic renewal.
- Cancellation of monthly subscriptions takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You retain access to paid features until the period expires.
- No refunds are issued for partial months on monthly subscriptions.
- For the Explorer one-time purchase, you have a 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013, provided the digital content has not been fully accessed or downloaded with your prior consent and acknowledgement that the right to cancel would be lost.
- All prices are in GBP and inclusive of VAT where applicable.
- VoicingLab Ltd reserves the right to change pricing with 30 days' notice to existing subscribers.
5. Free tier
- Limited access to the Service as described in Section 4.
- Features available on the Free tier may change without notice.
- No service level guarantee is provided for Free tier users.
- VoicingLab Ltd may discontinue the Free tier at any time.
6. Acceptable use
You must not:
- Scrape, crawl, or systematically extract Voicing Data from the Service
- Redistribute, resell, or sublicense any Voicing Data, audio samples, or Content from the Service
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
- Share Account credentials with third parties
- Use the Service to create a competing product or database
- Circumvent any access controls or feature restrictions
- Use automated tools to access the Service except through the official MCP Server
- Upload malicious code or attempt to compromise the Service
7. Intellectual property
- All Voicing Data, voice-leading algorithms, mastery engine logic, Content, design, and code are owned by VoicingLab Ltd or its licensors.
- The Salamander Grand Piano samples used for audio playback are licensed under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 and attributed accordingly.
- Users retain all rights to their own Practice Data, progress data, and any content they create using the Service.
- The VoicingLab name, logo, and brand assets are trademarks of VoicingLab Ltd.
- Jazz standard chord progressions included in the Standards Library are musical facts and are not claimed as proprietary. The specific voicing arrangements and voice-leading paths generated by the Service are the intellectual property of VoicingLab Ltd.
8. MIDI input and audio
- The Service supports MIDI keyboard input for interactive practice via the Web MIDI API.
- Audio is generated in the browser using Tone.js and the Salamander piano sample library. No audio is recorded, stored, or transmitted to VoicingLab servers.
- MIDI Input data is processed locally in the browser and is not stored on VoicingLab servers unless explicitly part of a practice session saved by the user (Pro and Teacher tiers only).
9. MCP server
- VoicingLab provides a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server with 5 tools for programmatic access to Voicing Data: voicing lookup, voice-led progression solving, style listing, personalised recommendations, and chord information.
- Use of the MCP Server is subject to these same Terms.
- Rate limits may apply to MCP Server requests.
- VoicingLab Ltd reserves the right to modify, restrict, or discontinue the MCP Server at any time.
- The MCP Server is provided for personal and educational use. Commercial redistribution of data obtained via the MCP Server is prohibited without written permission from VoicingLab Ltd.
10. iReal Pro import
- The Service allows import of song data from iReal Pro format (Explorer tier and above).
- iReal Pro is a trademark of Technimo LLC. VoicingLab is not affiliated with or endorsed by Technimo LLC.
- Users are responsible for ensuring they have the right to import any content they upload.
- Imported data is stored in the user's Account and is not shared publicly.
11. Data protection and privacy
- Our collection and processing of personal data is governed by our Privacy Policy.
- We comply with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018.
- Practice Data and progress data are considered personal data and are handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
- Users may request deletion of their Account and all associated data at any time by contacting hello@voicinglab.com.
12. Availability and service levels
- We aim to provide continuous availability of the Service but do not guarantee uptime.
- The Service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, updates, or due to circumstances beyond our control.
- We are not liable for any loss resulting from unavailability of the Service.
13. Limitation of liability
- To the maximum extent permitted by law, VoicingLab Ltd shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service.
- Our total liability for any claim arising from or relating to these Terms shall not exceed the amount you paid to VoicingLab Ltd in the 12 months preceding the claim.
- Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
14. Termination
- You may terminate your Account at any time by cancelling your Subscription and contacting hello@voicinglab.com.
- VoicingLab Ltd may suspend or terminate your Account if you breach these Terms.
- Upon termination, your access to paid features ceases immediately.
- Your Practice Data may be retained for 30 days after termination before deletion, unless you request immediate deletion.
15. Changes to these Terms
- We may update these Terms from time to time.
- Material changes will be notified via email to registered users at least 14 days before taking effect.
- Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
- If you do not agree to updated Terms, you must stop using the Service and cancel your Subscription.
16. Governing law and disputes
- These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
- Any disputes arising from these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
- Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer under UK law.
